EXAMPLE OF ADVERBS:
An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
Like adjectives, adverbs modify words in sentences. An adverb can modify—or change the meaning of—a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

In a sentence an adverb usually answers one of these questions about the word it modifies: How? When? Where? How often? To what extent? The adverbs in the following examples answer these questions about verbs.

She speaks softly.
He drove fast.
I ate quickly
When?
She works today.
Take me now.
We will go later
Where?
Ted lived there.
We live nearby.
How often?
I saw her once.

Ann usually goes.
To what extent?

She almost fell.
Four adverbs commonly begin questions.
How did you know?
Where should I go?
When will they leave?
Why did I do it?
An adverb can come before or after the verb it modifies. It can separate the parts of a verb phrase.

I will read the book soon.
